Hello. Welcome to the art department. My name is Stephanie Danker. And I'm an assistant professor of art education. We're going to start the tour in the communication design area. The communication design program at Miami University is focused on preparing learners for professional practice in areas of visual design and user experience. Embracing the liberal arts students learn to combine thinking knowledge and skills from many disciplines to inform design processes research and outcomes. We have small class sizes where a cohort of learners work personally with faculty visiting designers and alumni. Designers learn traditional and emerging technologies for planning developing and producing digital and physical design outcomes. This is the primary studio space where communication design faculty teach courses. The conference room strangely and fondly referred to as the womb for many years is excellent for small group meetings. Pinup walls and mobile dry erase boards allow for a range of critiques and collaborations. Team based courses like HighWire Brand Studio taught with the marketing department can meet in the various modular areas of the studio. Curmudgeon press is a letter press printing studio a unique space where designers can physically create while focusing on the details of typography color and layout to translate to their digital work. Considered visual laboratories the programs of Hiestand Galleries exhibit artworks that highlight timely enlightening and challenging exhibitions that consider the ever changing world of contemporary visual expression. With over exhibitions per year the galleries feature artworks by national and international artists and designers as well as work by undergraduate and graduate students in the department of art. This is a ceramics studio. This is the wheel throwing space. We'll move into the area that's used for hand building. This is where students would take metals and jewelry design. These are the foundation studios. So all first year students would take prospective drawing color theory creative technologies in these spaces. And then there's a room for them to hang out. This is photography. Our photography program considers themselves ohana family. We have black and white photography. And we also have digital photography here. You'll see some of our digital printing spaces. We have studio lights large format by cameras computers scanners inkjet printers et cetera. This is the animation studio. This is the rad lab which is used primarily for emerging technologies game classes but also has the occasional fashion class and photo class. This is the art history lecture space. And our art history program provides a global coverage of art history including specialized courses in the arts of Asia and Africa. This is one of the art education studios. It's also where art therapy is taught and some arts management classes. Our art education program prepares students for an Ohio teaching license. This is our painting studio. We have all levels of painting. We have realistic painting and abstract painting and graduate studies in painting. This is our drawing studio. All students at Miami take drawing as foundations. They draw from observation as well as figure drawing. Learn how to draw the figure from live models. Thanks for visiting the Department of Art. We hope to see you at Miami University in the fall.
