Welcome to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. We are very happy that you'd take some time to come and visit and take a look at the type of equipment and laboratories that you could be using here at Miami University. If you're wondering what I'm standing in this thing is a Tesla machine. For those of you who know your history know that Edison and Tesla had a disagreement about the type of electrical power. Tesla believed that we should broadcast it without wires. When you look at our communities you can see that Edison won but Tesla had a great idea. This particular setup can actually broadcast electricity throughout this area. At Miami University those students that are interested in doing research with a faculty member have that opportunity. Because we currently don't have a PhD program so all of our PhD professors need interested students to help them work in their laboratories. In the second semester of your first year you can apply to join the Lockheed Martin Leadership Institute. It is an excellent opportunity to learn about yourself learn about group dynamics and more importantly all about strategic leadership. You take an additional course each semester for the next three years and when you graduate you get the Lockheed Martin Leadership Institute Certificate. Students that graduate from here learn how to work together in teams. They have learned how to communicate both orally and written because of our fantastic liberal arts focus here. As an electrical engineer as a computer engineer they will be designing those things of the future those robots that will make our lives better. Thank you very much for taking a moment to take a look at what's available in our Electrical and Computer Engineering Department here at Miami University.
